DISEASE

Disease is the main cause of poor playing conditions on golf courses, especially in winter months. Any disease left too long will result in major turf damage that may not improve until the following Spring/Summer when grass growth permits recovery.

Typical solutions:
cultural - improve surface drainage via aeration, verti-draining, gravel and sand banding. Chemical - Preventative and/or curative control using fungicides (environmentally friendly).

VERTI-DRAINING
The Verti-drain uses 13mm to 24mm diameter tines to relieve compaction. It achieves this by breaking up the soil pan below the surface. This aids surface water drainage and allows air to penetrate the soil promoting far superior root growth.

GRAVEL BANDING
We use a Shelton Gravel Band Drainer. These gravel bands link into lateral and main drains which take the unwanted water away. This is known as secondary drainage getting surface water into the drains. Lytag is used in place of gravel in most cases due to its superior hydro-conductivity.

SAND BANDING
Our BLEC Vibra-Sandmaster is a one pass de-compactor and sand banding machine. It works effectively on all sportsturf with its combination of ground breaker and sandmaster working together to produce a matrix of sand slits at 260mm centres - and all this with virtually no surface disturbance. With Depths of 75mm - 175mm (depending on conditions).
